Chapter 2 The Silence
I walked along the shadow-way and listened for a sound,
Not knowing if my footfalls echoed from a gentle ground,
Towards the path of hushing leaves the boughs all verdant-crowned,
Overarched the muted lavender with sombre swathes around.
The silence of surroundings rose to muffle straining ears,
How could it be so quiet? Were my footfalls in arrears?
Even as I pondered, whispered leaves negated fears.
Surreal it seemed that perfect calm was tamarisk-enshrined,
Until the cautious science brought the theory to my mind,
Never ask the questions 'til the answers are refined-
Let the art of silence in your thinking be defined.
It seemed the dawn of knowledge tinged awareness; was I blind,
To hope my life of broken sound had left itself behind?
Divided in my wonderment I saw the sunlit dark,
An answer to my question lettered by the tattered bark,
Recalling me from numbing dreams, my own awakened spark,
Knew in the sharpened instant that disquiet left a mark.
