chapter 16 island of love
I clambered from immortal depths to face the risen dawn,
Splashing to an island fashioned by the weave of morn,
Let rashness not encumber me – let new awareness warn!
Ashes of this memory all scattered through the mind,
Needs must arise to caution me; oh, truly I'd been blind...
Delight and danger waited, inextricably entwined.
I stood upon a glimmered shore, all dripping from my haste,
Desiring this reality, an island surely chaste,
Yet still my limbs did tremble to assimilate the isle,
Let heaven be my witness, for I saw my lover's smile!
Love rocked my disillusion to the tune of fortune's guile.
Oh seven times I blinked my eyes, and yet my love remained,
Fortune's favourite might I be, through innocence regained.
Jewelled with her silver band, and garlanded with shells,
On ruffled beach she called to me like Lyonesse's bells,
Yesterday was washed away by her idyllic spells.
Eve in all her innocence could not have been more fair,
Marina of the island now? But that was her affair,
Blossom of my wandering; I would not snatch again,
Regard the lessons I had found in that enchanted lane.
Anticipation battled with expectancy of ruth,
Cradled in my honour as I sought the hidden truth,
Encouraged by her longing gaze to offer her my hands-
Silently she beckoned; I approached across the sands.
Amethyst and coral never were as fair as she,
Nymph of my romancing whom I loved beside the sea,
Desiring perpetuity, I knew uncertainty.
Diana of my wonderment, enchantress of my fate,
Embraced, I would have died for her, yet schooled myself to wait-
Siren of my senses, through a bridal veil of foam,
I drifted in felicity, her kisses drew me home.
Retouched by this reality, my wounds might smart again...
Enhanced, entranced, embedded- most fortunate of men.
