chapter 19 strange skies
Stars of strangeness overhead, a wooden shell below,
Touched me with a vision of the world I used to know,
Attic of the heavens, constellations from afar,
Rhythm of the ocean echoed by a drifting star.
Lights of distance gazing from the whorls of galaxies,
Intrigued me and entranced me as I cantered on the seas.
Gone the phosphorescence; its divine and frozen hue-
Hyacinthine shadows streaked the sea of midnight blue...
Tessellated patterns teased my consciousness anew.
Ashes of these memories! Beneath the crystal skies,
Naiads of my fancy wove a ballet for my eyes,
Drinking in the quiet dark I dreamed it otherwise.
Singularly I recall no terror of the deep,
It seems the horror of the beast was lulled away to sleep,
Linking worlds inside my mind it startled me to find,
Encircled night had doused her lamps and I was sailing blind.
Night of silence, night of dark, a canopy of chill,
Choreography of memory – a placid void to fill
Enveloped me in ravened wings... and I was sailing still.
