chapter 32 embraced
In failing light we swept to land, within a forest glade,
Night had not eclipsed the trees, nor yet the waiting maid;
Tamarisk in softened hue bedecked the shadowed way,
Enchantment hovered over all, to bless the closing day.
Reaching arms did welcome me, a graceful guiding hand;
Lifted to the shining flock; we flurried down to land,
Until my feet were on the mould, my heart still in the air,
Dancing with the feathered ones, who'd taken me in care-
Entranced, enhanced, encircled, by magic yet ensnared.
Into the loved embrace I stepped, my questioning must wait,
Never has a man succumbed so willingly to fate.
To blink my eyes in seven times; I still my love beheld,
Her larks all perched upon the boughs, with living wood to meld,
Encrypted life, obedient, or waking twigs bespelled?
Grounded in the sylvan place, with mossy greenery,
Lulled by silver-bonded wife of bright serenity,
Apprehensions flowed away, but verily, I knew,
Dearly as I loved this woman I must soon review
Enchantment or enlightenment; the chosen one renew.
