seren annwyl
Deep in the green of the forest of Tylwr
I know she is waiting, my Seren Annwyl
Pensive in sunlight and bonded in silver
Auraed in magic she walks where she will
The unicorn mare brought her there from the madness
And stays with her always; for where would she roam?
Her valleys of moonshimmer echo in sadness
The battle was lost and she’ll never go home
Oh Seren, my Seren, with beauty imbued
I bartered my soul for a moment with you
Seren Annwyl, the beloved of the star days
Sits pensive in dreaming and lost to my world
While I am trapped in this horror of highways
Befuddled, bereft in my bleakness refurled
My steed is of metal, my feet shod in silence
My briefcase is far from the forests I trod
When my people and Seren’s did battle in violence
With arrows of blood and the sting of the rod
Oh Seren, my Seren, my body’s reborn
I long to be near you, but we are forsworn
Seren Annwyl is my reason for being
The heartbeat of life and the meaning of all
In moments of silence it’s she I am seeing
As pausing in thought I stare blankly at walls
To murder a lady could never become me
Far less when she’s pensive and auraed with gold
Yet that was the order my captain deployed me
And in Seren’s gaze was my exile foretold.
Oh Seren, my Seren, how could I forget
The moment when loving became my regret
Seren Annwyl is my hostage to living
My bond and my treasure that ties me to time
This vision of her is what has me believing
My sacrifice carried a reason and rhyme
For now though I’m exiled in cities’ grey places
I dream that my Seren’s aligned with me yet
And though she’s a being of green ways and spaces
My choice is a bargain I cannot reject.
Oh Seren, my Seren, my girl in the green
You’ll always be with me, albeit unseen
I know my conviction has marked me unbalanced
I see you deny her and wish her away
Suppose I pretend I’m no longer so entranced
Pay lip service to what you want me to say?
My daydreams are worthless, my memory’s wrong!
Of rational analysis I’ve had my fill;
I’m in sync with reality; fantasy’s gone
Shall I say I am cured of Seren Annwyl?
But Seren, my Seren, my lodestone, my star
I’d sooner die dreaming, if that’s where you are.
I know she is waiting, my Seren Annwyl
Pensive in sunlight and bonded in silver
Auraed in magic she walks where she will
The unicorn mare brought her there from the madness
